Dolly Parton has proven the Chinese saying that "the older the ginger, the spicier it is" (this is kinda a direct translation, so pardon me haha). It kinda means that a person with experience are definitely better in the industry...and Dolly Parton represents the earlier generation of country singers with fantastic writing skills.
Okay, she might not be the hottest country babe, but this lady has got talent!
Although I personally think that Taylor Swift writes brilliantly, most of her songs are still centered around her love stories, and so, for some, it may really lack certain substance. (I mean, there are so much more in life than singing about the guy you had a crush on. That being said, I still love Taylor Swift's music.)
Dolly Parton's songs however are basically wonderful and inspirational stories told through music; and that's what I love about Dolly Parton's song. She doesn't just sing about love and crushes but she adds moral values into her music, and that is just awesome. The way she managed to pen such words beautifully into melodies has firmed her position in my list of ultimate song writers (others include Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Colbie Caillat and of course Taylor Swift).
This is one of Dolly's songs that really inspired me in many ways, besides "Coat of Many Colours".
This song reminds me to not complain but live life and get things done.
Everytime I feel that I feel that life is unfair, or when I just feel I have a reason to complain, I love to just listen to this song because, although it might not have instant effect on me haha, but at least I have something to help me get going, instead of just be stuck at the same spot and not moving.
Better Get To Livin' by Dolly Parton
Verse 1:
People always coming up to me,
And asking “Dolly what’s your secret?
With all you do your attitude just seems
To be so good how do you keep it?
Well am not the Dalai Lama but ill try,
To Offer up a few word of advice.
Chorus:
You’d better get to living, Givin’
Don’t forget to throw in a little forgiving’
And lovin’ on the way.
You’d better get knowing, showing
A little bit more concerned about where you’re going
Just a word unto the wise.
You’d better get to livin’.
Verse 2:
A girlfriend came to my house,
Started cryin’ on my shoulder,
Sunday evening. (Better Get To Living)
She’s she was spinnin’ such a sad tale I couldn’t believe
The yarn that she was waving’
So negative the words she had to say,
I said “If I had a violin I’d Play”
Chorus:
I said you’d better get to living, give in
Be willing and forgivin’
Cos our healin’ has to start with you.
You Better stop wining, pining,
Get your dreams in line and just
Shine, Design, Refine until They Come True.
And you’d better get to living
People always coming up to me,
And asking “Dolly what’s your secret?
With all you do your attitude just seems
To be so good how do you keep it?
Well am not the Dalai Lama but ill try,
To Offer up a few word of advice.
Chorus:
You’d better get to living, Givin’
Don’t forget to throw in a little forgiving’
And lovin’ on the way.
You’d better get knowing, showing
A little bit more concerned about where you’re going
Just a word unto the wise.
You’d better get to livin’.

This verse just reminds me of people who just can't stop complaining about things in their life when in fact, they have almost everything. I mean, it is okay to vent once in a while but there are some people who just CAN'T stop getting over things and just move on. I mean, in the end, it is them who lose out because they are still not growing from the experience, but just blaming others for their own misfortunes, or for the fact that they don't get the things they want in life. Trust me, I know how it feels like to feel that the world is F unfair man! I've been there before, feeling that this world is just so unfair but then I guess I had been inspired to just move on and get on with life. I'm glad to say that it did lead me to a certain somewhere, though I could have done better. It really felt better to think back and go, I'm glad that I've just moved on and did great (in my own standards lar haha) rather than not work hard and just say...it's all the bloody dude's fault that this happened. But I don't deny that I still complain a lot when the time comes lar haha. Trust me, I complain a lot too sometimes, to a point I'm sick of myself haha.
Bridge:
Your life’s a wreck your house is a mess,
And your wardrobe is way outdated,
All your plans just keep on falling through,
Overweight and underpaid,
Underappreciated,
Am no guru but I tell you this I know is true
Chorus:
You’d better get to living, givin’
A little more thought about been a little more willing,
To make a better way (make a better Way)
Don’t sweat the small stuff, keep your chin up,
Just hang tough, and If it get too rough,
Fall on your knees and pray, and do that everyday
Then you’ll get to livin’
Oooo ...I love "don't sweat the small stuff, keep your chin up, just hang tough and when it gets too rough, fall on your knees and pray".
I'm so sorry but I never get people who dramatizes small small things; it is super annoying. I mean, spare the drama and get the thing done. I'm sorry but I hate it when there's a problem, the first thing people do is ask "who did it?" when the question should be ...how do we fix it? I mean you can ask who did it later and then dramatize it all you want, like I care but then don't create more problems when there is already enough problems. I know that it's always easier said than done, but then I always try to remember my dad's advice to not point the finger but solve the problem. That is one good advice from my dad that I'll treasure forever. That being said, I'm no angel okay. Sometimes I also can't help but start blaming first, so...well, let's try to do it as less as possible.
I'm also not a super religious person but I truly believe in prayers. I don't really know who I pray to, but I believe in something Mightier up there by the name of Gods and I always thank Them for everything. I'm not fanatically crazy or obsessed with their power but most of the time, They had been there and I just feel really blessed. And I try my best to really pray every night, just to help me go on in life - it could be just unsubstantial belief or it could be something real, I don't know, but my faith did help me get going. So it is true that when things get too rough, you pray. It helps in some unexplainable ways.
Outro:
The day were born we start to die,
So don’t waste one minute of this life,
Get to livin! (Get to livin’)
Share your dreams and share your Laughter and Make some points.
For the great hereafter. (Get to Livin’)
Better start caring,
Better start sharing
Better start tryin’,
Better start smilin’
And you better get to livin’.
I guess there is no better way to end this post than saying to all you folks out there "GET A LIFE!!!"
Smiles & cheers
With Lotsa Love,
